Hortense

Located the tip of the Cap Ferret peninsula, Hortense is a well known dive site in the Bassin d’Arcachon and is named after the famous restaurant that is opposite the site! Dropping down to 26m deep, the dive site has rich flora and fauna on its rocky bottom. Lobsters, turtles and conger eels lurk between the cracks and its not uncommon to spot torpedo rays either. A statue of the god Venus, a dolphin and a sea horse were added to the reef by divers and add to its charm.

Further along is a blockhouse whose smooth walls are now covered with hundreds of anemones. They are grouped by color and form an incredible patchwork of orange, red and purple, sparkling under the beam of a dive light. After this there are two sailboat wrecks both also covered by plentiful marine fauna and flora.

Diving here is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced divers. Perfect for a night dive it is also great for lazy divers who can let themselves be carried back and forth by the pull of the tide!
