La Pointe du Vaisseau / The Vessel's Spit

Located to the south east of the island of Port Cros, the spit is well-sheltered from the Mistral wind. It stands as a rocky spur gently sloping down until it reaches a sandy bottom, about 40m deep. You can dive either side of the deep plateau. Drift along and take the time to explore the numerous cracks and crevices; the strong currents that batter the area have enabled a wide variety of marine life to settle and grow. The grouper, for example, can be counted by the hundreds over the Port Cros Marine Reserve! On La Pointe du Vaisseau, sightings of Roussette sharks, scorpionfish, moray eels, nudibranchs, conger eels, crayfish, gobies of different kinds, or even Spanish lobsters, are quite common. The flora is essentially made of white gorgonian fans and coralligenous plants.
