Close to the small fishing village of Ficajola's Marine (or beach), the Spit at Ficajola stands right in the middle of UNESCO's World Heritage Piana's Calanques (or long, narrow cove with cliffs). It is as impressive underwater as it is topside! You'll be going down the wall to 20 meters where the red coral is thriving; then you can dive different routes to explore the pinnacles that stand from 38 meters down! Check out the tunnel, about 15 meters long, literally covered in Neptune's bryozoans. Around 25 meters depth you land amongst a labyrinth of boulders, natural habitat for crayfish!
Sites nearby might have denser marine life but Ficajola is the preferred area to spot scorpionfish and look for nudibranchs. Usually you finish your dive with a long (30 meters) cave, just 6 meters under the surface, perfect for the safety stop!
