Tulamben Drop-Off

The village of Tulamben is located on the north east of Bali and its bay is arguably the most dived area (along with Nusa Penida during July and August) in the region. Some 2500 different species of fish have been counted, with 700 species of coral... which makes it the most diverse diving area on this side of Indonesia! It is fed plankton by the 'Throughflow', an important and rich current connecting the Indian with the Pacific Ocean.

Tulamben drop-off

Aka 'The Drop-Off', it is a highly prized dive site for technical divers. Composed of lava flows dating back to the Gunung Agung eruption from 1963, the wall drops down to 70m depth with all the tropical life you'd ever want to see: colourful hard and soft corals, napoleon wrasse, sunfish, manta rays... chances are you might spot a few hammerhead sharks and giant gorgonian fans! Currents are usually light and the visibility averaging 15 meters. A great place to dive, once again even better if you want to take macro photography.

The Coral Garden

Aka the 'Second wreck' of Tulamben, this artificial reef starts around 3m and ends up at 12m. It's a young coral garden, about 20 years old, but it has an impressive number of leaf fish, ribbon eels, oriental sweetlips, shrimps, feather stars and nudibranchs.
