Shark Point

One of the highlight of your trip! A great site for all divers, even for first timers. It is a very popular site that can be a bit crowded in the morning... though it's a vast area so you can escape easily. The shallows have turned into turtle haven, with no less than 10 turtles almost guaranteed over a single dive! From 12 meters it drops quickly to 20m and deeper; it goes down in stages with big steps or canyon. Between 20 and 30 meters chances are high you'll see a shark! Usually white and black tip reef sharks. The site is particularly rich in surprises, with schools of jacks, snappers and barracudas, but also stingrays, sometimes manta rays, eagle rays and obviously turtles. Good place for octopus and moray eels. The current can be surprisingly strong... stay close to your guide and watch your air and no-decompression limit!

Today the Gili Eco Trust, Gili Shark Foundation and most of the dive centres on the Gili Islands are helping the mega fauna to recover around the islands by reintroducing reef sharks from Bali, where they're being hunted down and fished out by the dozen! The NGO has also been re-implanting coral on Biorock structures so the whole ecosystem is balanced and thriving again! Check them out on here:

You can also donate or volunteer or even get trained to help out, do a reef check or even build a Biorock structure! Get in and help Delphine and her team do it right for the environment!
