Our opinion on Bird’s Underwater Dive Center:

Located along the Crystal River where waves sparkle in the Florida sun, Bird’s Underwater Dive Center has everything you could hope for. Basically, the region contains a lot of small islands, forests, and mangroves thriving with sea life! What’s more, each year from November to March, the river’s warm fresh water attracts manatees, the pride of the region! In fact, Bird’s Underwater Dive Center has invested in the protection of this awesome yet endangered species (with the Manatees Eco-Tourism Association) and offers day trips - you can even request a seat aboard a boat with a small group of 6 - for diving with these amazing mammals. A meal along with fresh fruits and donuts will be provided throughout the day. Off-season, you can also sign up for shell hunting on the bed of the Crystal River. The center has 5 boats at its disposal holding up to 50 people.

As difficult as it is to not dive with the Manatees, it would be a major shame for the Tec divers to not go exploring the vast underwater caves that abound the river! All instructors - like Bird, one of the center’s two directors- are highly experienced SDI-TDI certified tec divers. As for Bird, divers come from all over the world to dive the caves with him. Tec diving courses are available as well as lessons in Trimix, Nitrox, Caves, Rebreather, and underwater scooter!  

Open for 27 years now, Bird’s Underwater Diving Center has become a reference. We have to mention here, safety is priority for them, so you’ll be in good hands. The center, superbly located, also has several riverside lodges, all with kayaks!
