Our opinion on the Jukung Dive dive center:
Only 2 hours 30 min away from Denpasar’s international airport on the island of Bali in Indonesia, the Jukung Dive dive center in Amed offers you the opportunity to discover the underwater treasures of Indonesia. After living several years in Hong Kong, Laurent and Ying, a Franco-American couple who just happen to dive, decided to make a life altering decision: they decided to live their dream and follow their passion and hence, Jukung Dive lives on! In fact 2 years ago while in Amed, in the northeast of Bali, they “met” the dive center and it was their mutual feeling that it was their “finning” fate that helped them take the “plunge”.
Far from the mass tourism of southern Bali, Jukung Dive succeeds in associating the local population with the growth of the dive center and thus contributes greatly to the quality of your experience. In fact, the name itself, Jukung, which is how the locals call typical Balinese fishing boats, reflects this desire. Little fact: a jukung is a distant cousin to the catamaran and can safely hold 3 divers.
So, whether you’re an experienced diver who’s into drift diving on the Bunutan and the Japanese shipwreckdive sites or a beginner, you will find your place. Jump on a jukung and let yourself be driven off by a local fisherman to discover multi-colored corals, nudibranchs galore, parrotfish, stonefish and even the USAT Liberty shipwreck and the Coral Garden.
Hey water lovers who are not sick of the sea but prone to being seasick, no worries! Most of the Jukung Dive dive sites are close to the Amed coast. Accompanied by one of the three local dive guides—all PADI certified and with the center for several years--, you will be in safe hands while you observe enormous rainbow-colored vase sponges, reef sharks, lionfish, pygmy seahorses, and moray eels!
And finally for the divers who find fun and education a great mix, Jukung Dive dive center offers more than 15 PADI specialty-training courses. If you're planning to go for them all, you might want to start with the Nitrox course because in Amed, you will want to stay underwater as long as possible. Take our word for it!
