Our opinion on Haliotis Dive Center:
They dreamt of it and sure enough they made it happen! José Alberto Oliveira Alves and Pedro have created their very own diving center within the magnificent UNESCOBerlengas nature reserve in Peniche, Portugal. The Haliotis dive center, which was founded in 2004 was one of the first dive centers at this time to have a 12m long boat thus offering optimal comfort for their divers. These two passionate diving enthusiasts and great friends changed their lives to open Haliotis and today they are a team of up to 20 staff working together during the summer months!
The staff respect professional, high standards and always ready to adapt to their clients needs and desires. In particular, they love sharing with their divers, their passion for the wild and rich marine flora and fauna that teems within the Berlengas nature reserve. Haliotis can take you to more than 60 different dive sites, some of which have drop offs down to 100m! All this with, of course, strict attention to divers safety at all times.
The same approach applies to dive training, of which there is something for everyone and for all tastes! Different options for Discover Scuba Diving are available such as in the pool and/or the sea and all PADI Recreational courses as well as technical diving via PADI Tec Rec courses. Haliotis is a Handicapped Certified dive center with a range of courses including discover dives on offer.
The dive center has a partnership with Aqualung for their diving equipment as well as Fourth Element (a more technical brand). They are one of the few test centers around and therefore all their dive gear is very well maintained and of course new and trendy! Can there be more? These nature lovers also collaborate with the Peniche Marine Biology University and many students come for training and scientific explorations with Haliotis.
The Berlengas UNESCO Biosphere nature reserve offers beautiful diving conditions with a great variety of fish to observe. In summer, there are sometimes hundreds of sunfish, a.k.a. mola molas! Dolphins visit in June and July as well as dwarf whales. Each year the Haliotis team also participate in observing an interesting phenomenon: schools of hunting mackerel! Get in now and experience the amazing underwater beauty of the Berlengas!
