Our opinion on Phocea Mexico - Cozumel:
As a destination, Mexico already sounds like a dream place to go on vacations. Now if you organise your diving holidays with Phocea Cozumel, you are definitely on the right track! Following the successful opening of a first dive center a few years ago in Playa Del Carmen, Martine and Didier have decided to get closer to the big blue, to the pelagics, with their two trademarks, always : family atmosphere and competence!
The dive center's spacious with lots of light, giving off a feeling of comfort and cleanliness... about 20m away from the sea! Schedule your dives as you wish, 'à la carte'; Phocea Cozumel's concept is customised service and flexibility.
We really appreciated the way they care for every diver personally, the customer service. The dive sites they picked are quality ones, and you always dive in small groups : 'just average' isn't part of the daily program! The water's clear and warm all year round. All their gear is Aqualung, well maintained and serviced. You spend the whole day on the boat, have your lunch onboard with the team of passionate and experienced instructors (some of them have been here 8 years). Good times!
The dive sites topography encourages to improve your dive techniques and try new things: the staff will tell you which course best suits your needs. Rebreather divers are welcome to come in with their machine, Phocea Cozumel's got plenty of O2 and Sofnolime! Once a month they organise a special dive trip down to Belize or to dive off-the-beaten-track cenotes in Merida. From June to the end of August, it's whale-shark season; from November until the end of February, don't miss the pregnant bullsharks that come swimming in the waters around Cozumel... There's always something cool happening!
Groups and dive clubs will be well sorted since they can charter their own boat(s). One of the intructors is fully qualified to work with people with disabilities, and one of the boats has been fitted to safely welcome them onboard. Phocea Cozumel has a privileged partnership with the hotel next door, the Villa Blanca, which facilitates the organisation of your stay. It's all there for you to enjoy!
To top it all off, Phocea Cozumel is an active member of the NGO Sea Shepherd: they give 2 euros per diver to support their effort in protecting the seas and the marine life. During the whale-sharks and the bullsharks seasons you'll be fully briefed about their biology, behaviour and what YOU can do to preserve their habitat. A very eco-responsible way to enjoy some of Nature's most awesome shows!
