DIVING MARSA ALAM

Welcome to the south of Egypt!! 270 kilometres south of Hurghada, Marsa Alam used to be a small fishing village with 6,000 inhabitants, now it's a well developped town and even more so since the opening of the international airport in 2003. The tiresome 3 hour road transfer to get to those beautiful waters is over!

Back in the days of the Pharaohs, Marsa Alam and its region was famous for gold, emerald, copper and lead mines... today the treasured resources have fins! Most of the dive sites are also fairly close to the coast: Elphinstone Reef or Dolphin Reef are sites names that come straight out of a diver's dream! And with turtles, sharks, dolphins, napoleon wrasse, barracudas, nudibranchs or clown-fishes they do not disappoint. It's like a life-size aquarium without the hordes of divers you have anywhere else in the country. A must-dive destination!

Topside you'll be happy to find a variety of accomodation, all very comfortable. They organise numerous activities... mainly watersports! Marsa Alam is on the way to Edfu (probably the best preserved temples in Egypt) so if you're travelling with your family or with non-divers, you can enjoy camel-back rides, quads or 4WD trip through the region to visit traditional Bedouin villages, like Wadi Hammamat, or go to the Gebel Elba National Park.
