Diving in Portugal
With over 850km of coastline bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is an amazing country where you can do some really beautiful diving. Without a doubt, the Algarveregion to the south, and its 3000 hours of sunshine per year play a bit part in this! But north of Lisbon, the Peniche region with the UNESCO World Heritage islands of Berlengas proves amazing.
- In Algarve, the dive sites are numerous and well known, day dives as well as night dives. In Lagoa and more specifically Pedra da Torre you can 'lose' yourself in the maze of impressive underwater forests. In Lagos you’ll be impressed by Porto de Mos and swarms of schooling fish. But the ‘must do’ of the Algarve region is Pedra de Ancora: an incredible reef structure full of lobsters and drum fish. For history lovers, there are numerious wrecks to be explored dating back to the Great Wars; some accessible to beginners, some for experienced divers and others for technical divers only. Beginners will love diving magnificent dive sites such as Arriefes, PedradoAlto or The Cave.
- Beginners and experienced divers alike will enjoy the currents at Alagada and BaixaBroeiro in the BerlengasIslands: the area sports beautiful beaches, caves, walls, tunnels, wrecks, rocky peaks, lagoons and an abundance of wildlife – don’t miss out on the opportunity to dive in this teeming, beautiful place! UNESCO didn't rank it a World Heritage place by chance...
