Diving the South of France
Thanks to a mild weather system, you can safely dive in the Provence 'Cote d'Azur' department of the Var almost all year round. It offers quality dive sites of stunning diversity! It's a region where the light and the landscape have inspired the impressionists painters and you'll enjoy a preserved environment with world-class dive sites... The most famous is around the island of Port-Cros, the first totally protected nature reserve in Europe, underwater and topside. The 'Pelagos Sanctuary' is an immense expanse of sea of about 85 000 square kilometres between France, Monaco and Italy, where all three countries have agreed to protect marine mammals.
Several dive centres, all of them qualified obviously, will take you in to explore the 'Big Blue'. Whatever your certification level and experience are, try out one of the shipwrecks and one of the local dive sites, keeping in mind they've been the backyard of those who, in Europe, have pioneered scuba diving! It is at the heart of the Mare Nostrum (latin for 'Our Sea') that almost a hundred shipwrecks (like The Donator or The Rubis) lie and await the more adventurous divers to find them... Promised, you won't be disappointed!
To discover all these marvellous places you can also go through our boat rental partner in the Var.
