DIVING MOZAMBIQUE

Little known to tourists, the Republic of Mozambique is a former Portuguese colony and a great diving destination with enormous potential. It's a picture perfect country with long golden sandy beaches, coconut trees and sand dunes which plunge straight into a turquoise sea... but it's also a land of adventure with vast expanses of wild bush, vibrant cities and a culture that tells the stories of the greatest civilisations! For the keen diver, Mozambique's geographical position is very unique: it sits on a strait, so pelagic encounters are anything but rare! Whale-sharks from November to April around Tofo or manta rays around Galeria: what ever you're looking for, it's got it! Mozambique has a lot to offer to divers, from Tofo, Inhamane, Zavora, Pomene or the Quirimbas... The list goes on and on!

Tofo, on the east coast, built its fame around big pelagics: whale-sharks, humpback whales, manta rays, but also different species of sharks, a lot of turtles and barracudas.

Two hours to the south, Zavora is even more isolated but you will still find a dozen breathtaking dive sites. If you want see sharks, look no further: it's the place to be, though this is for the more adventurous diver with experience in (serious) drift diving... The sharks likely to be seen are bulls, oceanic white tips, reefies, leopards, guitars, tigers or hammerheads!

Close to the Tanzanian border is the Archipelago of the Quirimbas. 27 islands that used to harbour pirates... Now a national park, the marine life is simply unique in its diversity and density. Topside sceneries are also a treat! A must see.

Put it this way: Mozambique is a diving destination like no others... for now! Enjoy it while you can, the dive areas are still off the beaten track. Shhhhh!
