DIVING MAURITIUS
At the heart of the Mascarene archipelago, sitting on the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, is the island of Mauritius. An old French colony with volcanic origins, like its neighbour - La Réunion - though less dramatic in topography, Mauritius offers beautiful beaches and landscapes which tourists from around the world are quite fond of! But it is more than just a picture-perfect postcard... With 150 km of uninterrupted reef, 36 different types of coral and more than 600 different tropicalfish (some of them are endemic to the island), Mauritius is protected by a barrier reef that will for sure deliver some great diving! Off the reef you'll find some nice drop-offs, a few caves and several shipwrecks. It is out there in the blue that you'll have a chance to spot big pelagicsharks, eagle and stingray rays, turtles and swirling schools of barracudas. You just have to choose what you fancy the most and what's more appropriate to your level and experience: wrecks to the north west, beautiful corals on the west coast or big fauna off the south east side!
Mauritius people and dive centres are well aware of the island's beauty and underwater treasures so all the companies edge towards conservation and share the same objective: preserve the underwater heritage and offer quality diving. It's all good!
