Basse-Terre is part of Guadeloupe archipelago, a group of islands in the French Antilles, and due to its volcanic geology it is home to some terrific dive spots! The famed UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve known as the 'Cousteau Reserve' is part of this side of the island and draws in many visitors from all over the world. With palm tree fringed beaches, water falls and hot springs there are lots of adventures activities on offer here as well as scuba diving, of course!

One of the most popular dive sites is Pigeon Island off Basse-Terre’s west coast which was named one of the worlds 10 best dives by Jacques Cousteau himself. There are many professional dive centers here offering a variety of scuba training and fun dives.

The western and northern coasts are the most popular dive regions, around Bouillante and Malendure. Dive sites are for all certification levels and there are some great wall and wreck dives here. Resident marine life includes turtles, parrotfish, barracudas, stingrays, a huge variety of sponges and trumpet fish.
